CVE-2026-45204
Description
A flaw was found in the GPU DDK (Graphics Processing Unit Device Driver Kit) and kernel. A non-privileged user can trigger an out-of-bounds memory access and a kernel NULL pointer dereference by making improper GPU system calls. This can lead to kernel exceptions, platform instability, and a Denial of Service (DoS), rendering the system unusable.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated Moderate because exploitation requires local unprivileged execution on the system and the impact is restricted to a denial of service without compromising data confidentiality or system integrity. Proprietary Imagination Technologies Graphics DDK drivers are not packaged or deployed by default across standard Red Hat enterprise distributions, as they are typically confined to specific embedded GPU platforms. In environments where this software stack is in use, an unprivileged user can craft system calls that induce an unhandled fault in driver recovery paths, triggering a kernel panic.
Understanding the Weakness (CWE)
Availability
Technical Impact: DoS: Crash, Exit, or Restart
NULL pointer dereferences usually result in the failure of the process unless exception handling (on some platforms) is available and implemented. Even when exception handling is being used, it can still be very difficult to return the software to a safe state of operation.
Integrity,Confidentiality
Technical Impact: Execute Unauthorized Code or Commands; Read Memory; Modify Memory
In rare circumstances, when NULL is equivalent to the 0x0 memory address and privileged code can access it, then writing or reading memory is possible, which may lead to code execution.
