CVE-2026-44578
Description
A flaw was found in Next.js. Self-hosted applications utilizing the built-in Node.js server are vulnerable to Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) through specially crafted WebSocket upgrade requests. A remote attacker can exploit this by causing the server to proxy requests to arbitrary internal or external destinations. This could lead to the exposure of internal services or sensitive cloud metadata endpoints.
Statement
This Important severity flaw in Next.js affects self-hosted applications, including Red Hat AMQ, when using the built-in Node.js server. A remote attacker can exploit specially crafted WebSocket upgrade requests to perform Server-Side Request Forgery, potentially exposing internal network services or sensitive cloud metadata endpoints. This risk is specific to deployments where the origin server is directly exposed to untrusted networks.

Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base or stability.

By providing URLs to unexpected hosts or ports, attackers can make it appear that the server is sending the request, possibly bypassing access controls such as firewalls that prevent the attackers from accessing the URLs directly. The server can be used as a proxy to conduct port scanning of hosts in internal networks, use other URLs such as that can access documents on the system (using file://), or use other protocols such as gopher:// or tftp://, which may provide greater control over the contents of requests.
