CVE-2026-43404

Description

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel. A local attacker could exploit a vulnerability in the memory management subsystem, specifically within the hmm_range_fault() function. When attempting to migrate a device-private memory page to system RAM, a failure to acquire a lock could lead to a continuous loop, preventing the system from progressing. This can result in a livelock, effectively causing a Denial of Service (DoS) where the system becomes unresponsive.

Statement

This Moderate impact flaw in the Linux kernel's memory management could allow a local attacker to cause a denial of service due to a livelock condition. Red Hat Enterprise Linux versions 7, 8, 9, and 10 are not affected as the vulnerable code is not present. Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 Extended Life Cycle Support (ELS) is affected, but the resolution is Out Of Support Stream (OOSS), meaning it is no longer actively supported.

Mitigation

Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
