CVE-2026-43210
Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's tracing ring-buffer subsystem. This vulnerability occurs in the rb_read_data_buffer() function, which fails to validate the length of an event before using it to determine the next memory address. If an event's length is corrupted, this can lead to an invalid memory access during system boot, potentially causing a denial of service (DoS) by crashing the system.
Statement
Red Hat acknowledges the upstream Linux kernel correction for «tracing» as described in COMMENT_ZERO. Fixes are delivered through standard kernel errata for supported products. Operational exposure depends on whether this subsystem or driver is active in your configuration.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.

Technical Impact: Varies by Context; DoS: Resource Consumption (CPU); Modify Memory; Read Memory
When the quantity is not properly validated, then attackers can specify malicious quantities to cause excessive resource allocation, trigger unexpected failures, enable buffer overflows, etc.
