CVE-2026-34042
Description
A flaw was found in act. The built-in actions/cache server in act listens on all network interfaces, allowing a remote attacker to create and retrieve caches with arbitrary keys. By predicting cache keys used by local actions, an attacker can inject malicious files into caches. This vulnerability could lead to arbitrary remote code execution within a Docker container.
Statement
Red Hat Product Security has determined that this vulnerability does not affect any currently supported Red Hat product. This assessment may evolve based on further analysis and discovery. For more information about this vulnerability and the products it affects, please see the linked references.
Mitigation
Restrict network access to the `act` built-in actions/cache server. Configure firewall rules to block external connections to the port used by the cache server, limiting access to localhost or trusted internal networks only. This will prevent remote attackers from manipulating caches. A firewall service reload or system restart may be required for changes to take effect.
Understanding the Weakness (CWE)
Access Control,Other
Technical Impact: Gain Privileges or Assume Identity; Varies by Context
Exposing critical functionality essentially provides an attacker with the privilege level of that functionality. The consequences will depend on the associated functionality, but they can range from reading or modifying sensitive data, accessing administrative or other privileged functionality, or possibly even executing arbitrary code.
