CVE-2026-31777

Description

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's ALSA ctxfi driver. The driver failed to properly validate the return value from the daio_device_index() function. This oversight could lead to the driver making incorrect assumptions, potentially causing system instability.

Statement

CTXFI index mapping errors are now checked before use, complementing the missing-index fix. Red Hat recommends patched kernels for ctxfi hardware users.

Mitigation

To mitigate this issue, prevent the snd_ctxfi module from being loaded. See https://access.redhat.com/solutions/41278 for instructions.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
