CVE-2026-31500
Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's Bluetooth subsystem. A race condition exists in the Intel Bluetooth driver, where two functions can access the same memory concurrently without proper synchronization. This can lead to a use-after-free vulnerability, allowing a local attacker to potentially crash the system, resulting in a denial of service. In some cases, this type of vulnerability could also be exploited for arbitrary code execution.
Statement
Upstream wraps btintel_hw_error() in hci_req_sync_lock() so recovery commands cannot race hci_dev_do_close() freeing response SKBs. Red Hat documents this as a slab UAF class defect in the Intel Bluetooth driver path. Customers should update kernels; unloading bluetooth mitigates where acceptable.
Mitigation
To mitigate this issue, prevent the bluetooth module from being loaded. See https://access.redhat.com/solutions/41278 for instructions.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
