CVE-2026-25278
Description
A flaw was found in Snapdragon. A race condition exists when processing I2C (Inter-Integrated Circuit) transfer requests, specifically between memory allocation and data copying. This timing vulnerability can lead to memory corruption, allowing a local attacker with low privileges to potentially impact the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the system.
Statement
Red Hat rates this vulnerability as Important because a local user with unprivileged access could exploit this timing flaw to induce memory corruption, which may result in local privilege escalation or system instability. This issue specifically targets systems built on Qualcomm Snapdragon hardware and does not affect standard Red Hat Enterprise Linux installations running on traditional server architectures. On systems running on affected Snapdragon hardware, exploitation requires local user access and the capability to initiate transactions on the I2C bus.
Understanding the Weakness (CWE)
Integrity
Technical Impact: Modify Memory; Execute Unauthorized Code or Commands
Write operations could cause memory corruption. In some cases, an adversary can modify control data such as return addresses in order to execute unexpected code.
Availability
Technical Impact: DoS: Crash, Exit, or Restart
Attempting to access out-of-range, invalid, or unauthorized memory could cause the product to crash.
Other
Technical Impact: Unexpected State
Subsequent write operations can produce undefined or unexpected results.
