CVE-2026-18174
Description
A flaw was found in @fastify/forwarded. This component, responsible for resolving client addresses from the X-Forwarded-For header, fails to strip horizontal tab characters when processing multiple comma-separated entries. A remote attacker could exploit this by injecting tab characters into the X-Forwarded-For header, causing applications that rely on exact string matches for security decisions, such as allowlists or rate limits, to be bypassed. While this does not allow for impersonation of a trusted proxy, it can lead to the evasion of security policies based on client IP addresses.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.

Technical Impact: Varies by Context
This can lead to incorrect results and resultant weaknesses. For example, the code might inadvertently compare references to objects, instead of the relevant contents of those objects, causing two "equal" objects to be considered unequal.
