CVE-2026-121522

Description

A flaw was found in BuildKit. An attacker who provides a crafted build definition can cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by crashing the BuildKit daemon. This issue occurs when a build definition resolves metadata for the same Git source reference multiple times, triggering an unhandled panic. Consequently, the daemon stops unexpectedly, interrupting all active build operations.

Statement

A flaw was found in BuildKit's Git source reference resolution logic. When processing a crafted build definition that resolves metadata for the same Git source reference multiple times, an unhandled panic is triggered, crashing the BuildKit daemon and resulting in a denial of service to all active build operations.

Mitigation

Restrict build submission permissions to trusted users and avoid building untrusted definitions or repositories on shared daemon instances. In multi-tenant environments, isolate BuildKit daemon instances per workload to prevent daemon-level crashes from impacting concurrent builds.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
