CVE-2026-121404
Description
A flaw was found in FreeRDP. An authenticated remote attacker can cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by sending zero-length dynamic virtual channel data messages to the shadow server over an established Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) session. Because the server fails to properly consume these empty messages, receiving server threads enter an infinite loop. This behavior exhausts system CPU resources and degrades performance until the client disconnects.
Statement
A flaw was found in FreeRDP. An attacker controlling an RDP server can cause a connected FreeRDP client to spin indefinitely by sending zero-length dynamic virtual channel messages, resulting in a denial of service. An authenticated RDP session is required.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

Understanding the Weakness (CWE)
Availability
Technical Impact: DoS: Resource Consumption (CPU); DoS: Resource Consumption (Memory); DoS: Amplification
An infinite loop will cause unexpected consumption of resources, such as CPU cycles or memory. The software's operation may slow down, or cause a long time to respond.
