CVE-2026-120640

Description

A flaw was found in perl-cgi. This vulnerability allows a remote attacker to conduct request forgery by spoofing internal request body parameters through query strings or form fields. Because the module does not distinguish between actual request payloads and user-supplied parameters, an attacker can submit crafted input that the application mistakenly processes as a legitimate request body.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as having Moderate impact on Red Hat Enterprise Linux because exploitation requires specific preconditions and typically relies on user interaction via cross-site request forgery. While the perl-CGI package is distributed across supported enterprise environments, risk is confined to web applications that process raw request payloads through the module's internal parameter storage mechanisms. Deployments that do not expose web endpoints handling these synthetic parameters or that enforce strict origin validation remain unaffected.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
