CVE-2026-119299
Description
A flaw was found in gopacket. This vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by sending specially crafted Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) packets. Due to missing validation of declared chunk lengths and field counts in the SCTP decoder, processing these malformed packets triggers an unhandled crash in the consuming application.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as having a Moderate impact because exploitation is limited to a denial of service and requires specific parser configurations to cause an unhandled process termination. In typical Red Hat deployments, gopacket's standard packet decoding configuration handles panics gracefully, turning malformed SCTP frames into ordinary parsing errors rather than crashing the application. Consequently, unexpected termination is restricted to non-default implementations where panic recovery mechanisms have been explicitly bypassed.
Mitigation
No known mitigations are currently available for this vulnerability. We recommend applying the security updates once they are released.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
