CVE-2026-118774
Description
A flaw was found in node-forge. When verifying a digital certificate, the library improperly inspects signature algorithm parameters from the issuing certificate rather than from the certificate being validated. A remote attacker can exploit this issue to present a certificate that bypasses security policies requiring specific cryptographic signature schemes. While this vulnerability does not allow an attacker to forge certificate identities, it permits certificates with unexpected signature algorithms to be accepted.

When a certificate is invalid or malicious, it might allow an attacker to spoof a trusted entity by interfering in the communication path between the host and client. The product might connect to a malicious host while believing it is a trusted host, or the product might be deceived into accepting spoofed data that appears to originate from a trusted host.
