CVE-2026-118761
Description
A flaw was found in Kubeflow Pipelines. The API server does not properly restrict the size of decompressed data when processing uploaded archive files, performing decompression before authorization checks are completed. A remote, unauthenticated attacker could exploit this vulnerability by submitting a crafted compressed archive, causing excessive memory consumption and resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS).
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as having an Important severity for Red Hat OpenShift AI because remote, unauthenticated network users who can reach the Data Science Pipelines API server can trigger a severe denial of service. The API server unpacks archive files before performing namespace-level authorization checks on multipart upload requests, allowing an attacker to submit highly compressed archives that consume disproportionate system memory. Because decompression amplification occurs before identity or permission verification, the resulting memory exhaustion can terminate or crash the pipeline server pod and disrupt pipeline operations cluster-wide.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
