CVE-2026-118662

Description

A flaw was found in Vite. The Vite development server fails to properly enforce filesystem access restrictions before processing query parameters in requests. When the development server is exposed to the network, an unauthenticated remote attacker can bypass restriction rules by appending specific loader query parameters to file requests. This vulnerability can result in information disclosure by granting unauthorized access to sensitive files.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as Important severity because unauthorized network actors can bypass path-denial controls to read restricted local files without prior authentication, potentially exposing confidential environment secrets or credentials. In typical Red Hat environments, Vite is utilized exclusively as a client-side build utility during development or compilation pipelines, rather than being deployed as a public-facing runtime server. Red Hat production services serve pre-compiled, static frontend assets and do not expose active Vite server instances, significantly limiting real-world exposure across supported enterprise products.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
