CVE-2026-118260

Description

A flaw was found in Echo's BodyDump middleware. An unauthenticated remote attacker can cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by sending requests with large bodies or triggering large responses on routes using this middleware. Because the middleware reads and retains complete request and response bodies in memory without size limits, repeated or concurrent requests can exhaust system memory and crash the application process.

Statement

Red Hat rates this flaw as Important because an unauthenticated remote attacker can exhaust application memory and crash the service without requiring prior privileges. However, overall exposure is limited because the BodyDump middleware is an opt-in logging feature that is not enabled by default. Applications utilizing the Echo framework are affected only if routes have been explicitly configured to capture request and response streams. Typical deployments that do not register this debugging middleware remain unaffected.

Understanding the Weakness (CWE)

Availability

Technical Impact: DoS: Resource Consumption (CPU); DoS: Resource Consumption (Memory); DoS: Resource Consumption (Other)

When allocating resources without limits, an attacker could prevent other systems, applications, or processes from accessing the same type of resource. It can be easy for an attacker to consume many resources by rapidly making many requests or causing larger resources to be used than is needed.
