CVE-2026-117501
Description
A flaw was found in HTTP::Body. By sending crafted chunked HTTP requests with malformed chunk sizes, a remote attacker can cause the parser to continuously buffer incoming data in memory. This issue leads to excessive memory consumption, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS) for the affected application.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Important because an unauthenticated remote attacker can cause severe service disruptions through memory exhaustion over the network without requiring privileges. The perl-HTTP-Body package is not included in core Red Hat Enterprise Linux and is only packaged in Fedora and EPEL. Consequently, default Red Hat Enterprise Linux deployments are unaffected unless administrators have explicitly deployed Perl web applications utilizing this library from community channels.
Mitigation
Upgrade perl-HTTP-Body to 1.24_01 or later; where upgrading is not possible, limit accepted request-body sizes or reject chunked request bodies at the web-server/reverse-proxy layer.
Understanding the Weakness (CWE)
Availability
Technical Impact: DoS: Resource Consumption (CPU); DoS: Resource Consumption (Memory); DoS: Resource Consumption (Other)
When allocating resources without limits, an attacker could prevent other systems, applications, or processes from accessing the same type of resource. It can be easy for an attacker to consume many resources by rapidly making many requests or causing larger resources to be used than is needed.
