CVE-2026-116731
Description
A flaw was found in Furnace. The application does not properly validate subsong indices when parsing FamiTracker module files, leading to an out-of-bounds write. By convincing a user to open a specially crafted file, an attacker can corrupt memory and cause the application to crash, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS).
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Moderate severity because exploitation requires local user interaction to process a maliciously crafted audio file, limiting the primary impact to application denial of service. Furthermore, the affected software is not distributed or supported within Red Hat Enterprise Linux, restricting any potential risk to community environments.
Understanding the Weakness (CWE)
Integrity
Technical Impact: Modify Memory; Execute Unauthorized Code or Commands
Write operations could cause memory corruption. In some cases, an adversary can modify control data such as return addresses in order to execute unexpected code.
Availability
Technical Impact: DoS: Crash, Exit, or Restart
Attempting to access out-of-range, invalid, or unauthorized memory could cause the product to crash.
Other
Technical Impact: Unexpected State
Subsequent write operations can produce undefined or unexpected results.
