CVE-2026-116674

Description

A flaw was found in systeminformation. When processing network statistics on BSD-based systems, caller-controlled interface names are improperly handled during internal cache lookups. An attacker capable of supplying input to the network statistics function can trigger prototype pollution, modifying base object properties shared across the runtime. This modification can corrupt application logic, data serialization, or configuration merging, leading to unexpected behavior or denial of service.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as Moderate impact because triggering the flaw requires an application to pass untrusted input into network statistics functions, and the resulting prototype pollution is restricted to fixed property names without enabling remote code execution. In Red Hat product environments running on Linux, the library performs filesystem validation on network interface paths prior to caching statistics, preventing execution with arbitrary identifiers under standard conditions. Furthermore, typical Red Hat service deployments do not expose network metric interface parameters to unauthenticated or remote users.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
