CVE-2026-116596

Description

A flaw was found in Pyrus Sync, which allows local privilege escalation. Missing authorization controls in the PyrusSyncService Windows service allow an unprivileged local attacker to create unauthorized files using the service's communication interface. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to execute commands with elevated system privileges.

Statement

This flaw is assessed with an Important severity rating because an authenticated local user can bypass service-level access controls to write arbitrary files, potentially resulting in complete compromise of host integrity and confidentiality. However, this vulnerability is confined entirely to the third-party Pyrus Sync service for Microsoft Windows. Red Hat Enterprise Linux and other Red Hat offerings do not distribute, package, or support Pyrus Sync, so Red Hat products are not affected.

Understanding the Weakness (CWE)

Integrity,Confidentiality,Availability,Access Control,Other

Technical Impact: Gain Privileges or Assume Identity; Read Application Data; Modify Application Data; Execute Unauthorized Code or Commands; Other

Exposing critical functionality essentially provides an attacker with the privilege level of the exposed functionality. The consequences may vary depending on the behavior of the exposed method. Typically, this could result in the modification or exposure of sensitive data or possibly even execution of arbitrary code.
