CVE-2026-116579

Description

A flaw was found in autobahn. An unauthenticated remote attacker can exploit this vulnerability by sending a small, highly compressed WebSocket message to a server configured with Brotli compression. Because decompression occurs without enforcing an output size limit during processing, the payload can consume excessive memory before being rejected, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS).

Statement

Red Hat has rated this vulnerability as Moderate impact because successful exploitation requires non-default, opt-in configuration and is restricted to denial of service without compromising data confidentiality or system integrity. In supported Red Hat products, WebSocket services incorporating Autobahn do not enable the per-message Brotli compression extension by default. Exposure is therefore limited to specialized deployments that explicitly activate Brotli compression instead of standard algorithms like deflate.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
