CVE-2026-116196
Description
A flaw was found in Rclone. This vulnerability allows information disclosure due to improper handling of HTTP redirects within the Backblaze B2 storage backend. When download requests are redirected, the client inadvertently forwards sensitive account authorization tokens and Server-Side Encryption with Customer-Provided Keys (SSE-C). An attacker positioned on an adjacent network or controlling a redirect destination can intercept these credentials to gain unauthorized access to protected cloud storage resources.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Moderate severity because exploitation requires network adjacency to inspect downgraded traffic or control over HTTP redirect targets, and is limited to specific Backblaze B2 configurations using custom download endpoints. In Red Hat products such as Cryostat and Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management for Kubernetes (via VolSync), rclone is bundled as a utility to facilitate remote data replication and storage interactions. Typical deployments communicate directly with cloud providers over encrypted HTTPS connections, meaning authorization credentials and customer-supplied encryption keys are not exposed unless an administrator explicitly configures custom redirecting download URLs.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
