CVE-2026-116175

Description

A flaw was found in vLLM. This vulnerability allows a remote authenticated attacker to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by exhausting system memory. The multimodal chat processing component fails to enforce duration limits when decompressing audio inputs. By submitting a chat completion request containing a small, highly compressed audio file or URL, an attacker can trigger massive data expansion that crashes or severely degrades the service.

Statement

This vulnerability is evaluated as having a Moderate impact for Red Hat products because exploitation is restricted to denial of service through memory exhaustion, requires valid client authentication, and causes no compromise of data confidentiality or integrity. Within Red Hat OpenShift AI and Red Hat AI Inference Server, exposure is limited to environments where inference services host audio-enabled multimodal models processing user-supplied media. Standard text-only models do not invoke the vulnerable media handling routines, and any resulting pod failure does not compromise the broader container platform.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
