CVE-2026-116172

Description

A flaw was found in vLLM. Due to improper input validation in the Rust gRPC interface, a remote attacker can bypass configured limits by sending requests with excessively large or wrapped token count values. When processed, these invalid values trigger internal sampling failures that terminate the core engine service, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS).

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as Moderate severity for Red Hat products because exploitation results in a denial of service through an engine crash, with no compromise to data confidentiality or host system integrity. In Red Hat OpenShift AI and RHEL AI deployments, vLLM operates as a containerized workload where network access to the gRPC interface is generally confined to internal application services. Furthermore, container orchestration platforms automatically restart failed pods, mitigating the operational duration and blast radius of the disruption.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
