CVE-2026-116133

Description

A flaw was found in HTTP::Body. A remote attacker can cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by sending specially crafted HTTP requests containing missing or malformed multipart boundaries. Due to inefficient parsing, the component repeatedly rescans the buffered message body upon receiving each data chunk, consuming excessive CPU resources and exhausting server worker processes.

Statement

This flaw is rated with an Important severity impact because an unauthenticated remote attacker can exhaust server compute resources with low-complexity network requests, rendering backend services unavailable. In Red Hat environments, perl-HTTP-Body is not distributed as part of core Red Hat Enterprise Linux and is only packaged through EPEL and Fedora community repositories. Web services utilizing this library to parse incoming multipart HTTP form submissions from untrusted clients face potential denial of service due to worker thread saturation.

Mitigation

Upgrade perl-HTTP-Body to 1.23_01 or later (1.24 current). The fix (commit bf77eb95) stops quadratic rescanning of the preamble/delimiter lines in HTTP::Body::MultiPart and rejects malformed delimiters.

Understanding the Weakness (CWE)

Availability

Technical Impact: DoS: Resource Consumption (CPU); DoS: Resource Consumption (Memory); DoS: Resource Consumption (Other)

When allocating resources without limits, an attacker could prevent other systems, applications, or processes from accessing the same type of resource. It can be easy for an attacker to consume many resources by rapidly making many requests or causing larger resources to be used than is needed.
