CVE-2026-116109

Description

A flaw was found in Continue. This vulnerability allows arbitrary command execution due to an operating system (OS) command injection flaw in the Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server Transport component. A remote attacker could exploit this issue by supplying manipulated connection parameters to the configuration handler, leading to unauthorized command execution on the host system.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as Important severity for Red Hat because successful exploitation requires user interaction to load untrusted connection settings, yet could grant full local privileges to execute arbitrary commands. While exploitation leads to command execution within the running application's environment, it cannot occur without victim interaction or ingestion of manipulated configuration files. Continue is not distributed in supported Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments, limiting operational exposure across standard deployments.

Understanding the Weakness (CWE)

Confidentiality,Integrity,Availability,Non-Repudiation

Technical Impact: Execute Unauthorized Code or Commands; DoS: Crash, Exit, or Restart; Read Files or Directories; Modify Files or Directories; Read Application Data; Modify Application Data; Hide Activities

Attackers could execute unauthorized operating system commands, which could then be used to disable the product, or read and modify data for which the attacker does not have permissions to access directly. Since the targeted application is directly executing the commands instead of the attacker, any malicious activities may appear to come from the application or the application's owner.
