CVE-2026-115914
Description
A flaw was found in vLLM when processing image inputs with certain optical character recognition (OCR) models. A remote attacker can trigger a denial of service (DoS) by submitting a specially crafted image whose normalized pixel values sum to zero. This input causes the multimodal encoder validation logic to return an unexpected empty result, tripping a fatal assertion failure that terminates the serving engine for all users.
Statement
This flaw is rated as Moderate severity because exploitation is restricted to deployments actively serving models from the DeepSeek-OCR family and results solely in a denial of service without compromising confidentiality or data integrity. Within Red Hat OpenShift AI and Red Hat AI Inference Server, standard language model serving and unaffected vision-language architectures are not vulnerable. A crash occurs only when a remote request contains an image whose normalized tensor sums to zero while processed individually in the encoder batch, terminating the serving engine process.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
