CVE-2026-115897
Description
A flaw was found in serialize-javascript. This vulnerability allows an attacker to conduct Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) by supplying crafted function source text that bypasses escaping logic. When the resulting serialized data is rendered inside an HTML script block on a web page, the unneutralized closing script delimiter prematurely terminates the block and allows injected markup to execute arbitrary scripts in the user's browser.
Statement
Red Hat has evaluated this vulnerability as having a Moderate security impact because successful exploitation relies on high complexity and specific prerequisites, namely the ability to manipulate serialized function definitions rather than standard data properties. In typical Red Hat deployments, affected components serialize static configuration, metric objects, or structured JSON data rather than untrusted executable routines. As a result, triggering cross-site scripting inside an embedded script block is unlikely in standard production environments without direct influence over application runtime objects.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
