CVE-2026-115774

Description

A flaw was found in Twisted. An authenticated remote attacker can send a specially crafted search command with a negative size to the Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) service, triggering an infinite processing loop. This flaw leads to a Denial of Service (DoS), freezing the application and halting all network services managed by the affected process until it is restarted.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as Moderate impact because exploitation requires a remote attacker to possess valid credentials and an established mailbox session, with the impact confined to a denial of service. Supported Red Hat products shipping Twisted, such as Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform and Red Hat OpenStack Platform, do not configure or expose Twisted's IMAP server functionality in default deployments. Consequently, typical installations are not directly exposed to this issue unless custom applications explicitly deploy and expose an IMAP service built on Twisted.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.

Availability

Technical Impact: DoS: Resource Consumption (CPU); DoS: Resource Consumption (Memory); DoS: Amplification

An infinite loop will cause unexpected consumption of resources, such as CPU cycles or memory. The software's operation may slow down, or cause a long time to respond.
