CVE-2026-115580

Description

A flaw was found in pypdf. A remote attacker can cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by convincing a user or automated system to process a specially crafted PDF document. By specifying an excessively large entry count in the document's cross-reference table, the file triggers prolonged processing loops and excessive resource consumption, rendering the application unresponsive.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as Moderate impact because successful exploitation leads strictly to service degradation or denial of service through sustained CPU consumption, without enabling unauthorized data access or arbitrary code execution. Within affected Red Hat environments, such as OpenShift AI, Lightspeed, and Quay, exposure requires an application or automated pipeline to ingest and parse untrusted PDF documents provided by users or external sources. Systems that process only trusted internal files or do not parse external document uploads are unaffected.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
