CVE-2026-115408
Description
A flaw was found in crypto11. This vulnerability can result in information disclosure due to unverified Module-Lattice-Based Key-Encapsulation Mechanism (ML-KEM) key-pair lookups. When looking up key pairs, the library does not verify that a retrieved public key matches the target private key, or it falls back to selecting an unrelated public key if identifiers are missing. An attacker with access to the cryptographic token can plant a substitute public key, causing the application to encrypt shared secrets using the attacker's key and compromising the confidentiality of protected data.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated Moderate because exploitation requires local access to establish an unauthenticated token session and inject rogue cryptographic objects, bounding the potential attack surface. While unauthorized key substitution can compromise encapsulated shared secrets, the flaw cannot be triggered over an untrusted network without local session manipulation on the target token. Furthermore, the issue only affects experimental ML-KEM functionality introduced in pre-release versions of the v2 library, whereas stable v1 deployments are completely unaffected.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
