CVE-2026-115362
Description
A flaw was found in OpenBao. An attacker holding an expired AppRole Secret ID can authenticate to the system and gain unauthorized access beyond the credential's intended time-to-live (TTL). This issue occurs because the AppRole authentication method does not verify Secret ID expiration at the time of use or login, leaving expired credentials valid until the periodic cleanup process removes them.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Low severity because successful exploitation requires pre-existing possession of an authentic credential and is restricted to the narrow race window prior to the periodic background cleanup. In addition, OpenBao is not included or supported in Red Hat enterprise products, meaning default installations and environments remain unaffected.
Understanding the Weakness (CWE)
Availability
Technical Impact: DoS: Resource Consumption (CPU); DoS: Resource Consumption (Memory); DoS: Resource Consumption (Other)
When allocating resources without limits, an attacker could prevent other systems, applications, or processes from accessing the same type of resource. It can be easy for an attacker to consume many resources by rapidly making many requests or causing larger resources to be used than is needed.
