CVE-2026-115358

Description

A flaw was found in OpenBao. When processing requests with malformed plugin parameters, such as key-value pair or header fields, error messages containing sensitive input are recorded in audit logs. An authenticated remote attacker can exploit this issue by submitting crafted requests to trigger these errors, leading to the disclosure of sensitive information to anyone with access to the audit logs.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as Low impact because exploitation requires high privileges to supply crafted parameters and the resulting exposure is restricted to audit log entries without impacting system integrity or service availability. Additionally, OpenBao is not packaged or supported in Red Hat products, meaning default environments are not exposed to this flaw.

Understanding the Weakness (CWE)

Confidentiality

Technical Impact: Read Application Data

Often this will either reveal sensitive information which may be used to launch another, more focused attack or disclose private information stored in the server. For example, an attempt to exploit a path traversal weakness (CWE-22) might yield the full pathname of the installed application. In turn, this could be used to select the proper number of ".." sequences to navigate to the targeted file. An attack using SQL injection (CWE-89) might not initially succeed, but an error message could reveal the malformed query, which would expose query logic and possibly even passwords or other sensitive information used within the query.
