CVE-2026-114608

Description

A flaw was found in Pylint. The application stores module statistics in predictable cache files and deserializes them without adequate validation. A local attacker with write access to a shared or untrusted cache directory can replace these files with malicious data. When Pylint is subsequently executed by another user, this can result in arbitrary code execution with the privileges of that user.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as having Moderate impact for Red Hat products because exploitation requires local access and non-standard configurations where cache locations are shared or group-writable. Under default system installations, Pylint places its cache in a private user directory that is inaccessible to other unprivileged users. Consequently, an attacker can only compromise an environment if the PYLINT_HOME environment variable explicitly references a shared directory or if directory permissions have been improperly relaxed.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
