CVE-2026-114138

Description

A flaw was found in djangorestframework. An unauthenticated remote attacker can cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by sending HTTP requests with a specially crafted Accept header containing an excessive number of media types with complex parameters. Because the framework performs unbounded and repetitive parsing of these header tokens across available renderers, processing such requests consumes disproportionate CPU resources. This can exhaust application worker processes and render the API service unavailable to legitimate users.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as Important severity because an unauthenticated remote user can force severe CPU exhaustion and service outages across exposed web endpoints without requiring valid credentials. In Red Hat environments, products such as Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform and Satellite deploy web APIs that rely on synchronous application workers, making them susceptible to worker starvation when handling excessive content negotiation headers. Although active exploitation can render exposed API services temporarily unavailable, the vulnerability does not compromise system integrity or expose sensitive data.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

Availability

Technical Impact: DoS: Resource Consumption (CPU); DoS: Resource Consumption (Memory); DoS: Resource Consumption (Other)

When allocating resources without limits, an attacker could prevent other systems, applications, or processes from accessing the same type of resource. It can be easy for an attacker to consume many resources by rapidly making many requests or causing larger resources to be used than is needed.
