CVE-2026-114136

Description

A flaw was found in Django REST framework. This vulnerability allows a remote, unauthenticated attacker to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by exhausting server memory. The issue occurs because the JSON parser accepts arbitrary client-supplied charset encodings, including decompression codecs, rather than restricting input to text encodings. By sending a crafted, compressed request, an attacker can bypass request size limits and trigger excessive memory allocation during parsing.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as Important severity because remote, unauthenticated attackers can cause severe worker process memory exhaustion on exposed endpoints without requiring privileges or user interaction. While the impact is restricted to service availability rather than data confidentiality or integrity, the massive amplification ratio allows small network payloads to evade framework request-size constraints. In Red Hat environments, affected management and automation services rely on default API parser configurations, making backend workers susceptible to denial of service from minimal malicious traffic.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
