CVE-2026-114104

Description

A flaw was found in adm-zip. An attacker can exploit this vulnerability by supplying a specially crafted ZIP archive containing duplicate file names. Because the library resolves duplicate names inconsistently between its lookup and extraction routines, an application that validates a file before extracting the archive will inspect one entry while extracting another. This discrepancy allows unvalidated and potentially malicious files to be written to disk, bypassing security validation controls.

Statement

Moderate impact has been assigned to this flaw because successful exploitation depends on an uncommon programmatic pattern where an application validates individual archive entries prior to unpacking the entire archive. In affected Red Hat products incorporating adm-zip, risk is bounded by whether the service accepts unauthenticated or untrusted archive uploads and whether validation logic checks entry contents before batch extraction. Consequently, absent this specific verification architecture, the parsing inconsistency does not automatically result in privilege escalation or unauthorized disk modification.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.

Understanding the Weakness (CWE)

Other

Technical Impact: Varies by Context

If the product assumes that each resource has a unique identifier, the product could operate on the wrong resource if attackers can cause multiple resources to be associated with the same identifier.

Access Control

Technical Impact: Bypass Protection Mechanism

If unique identifiers are assumed when protecting sensitive resources, then duplicate identifiers might allow attackers to bypass the protection.

Technical Impact: Quality Degradation
