CVE-2026-113872

Description

A flaw was found in multer. A remote attacker could cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by sending and abruptly aborting a file upload request when an asynchronous file filter is configured. When the aborted request's pending filter callback finishes, it triggers an unhandled stream error, leading to an application process crash.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as Important because an unauthenticated remote attacker can trigger an unhandled exception that terminates the Node.js application process with a single aborted request, causing a complete denial of service. Within Red Hat environments hosting services built on Node.js, the issue only manifests if endpoints implement custom asynchronous file filters during multipart upload handling. Systems that rely on synchronous file filters or default upload configurations remain unaffected. Although container orchestration platforms may automatically restart failed service pods, repeated exploitation could sustain an availability outage.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
