CVE-2026-113791

Description

A flaw was found in pypdf. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by providing a specially crafted PDF file containing content streams with an excessive number of small operations. When parsed, this causes the library to allocate disproportionate amounts of memory, potentially leading to application unresponsiveness or a crash, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS).

Statement

Red Hat rates this vulnerability as having Moderate severity because exploitation is restricted to process memory exhaustion leading to denial of service, with no compromise of system confidentiality or integrity. In Red Hat environments, including OpenShift AI and Lightspeed RAG components, pypdf is utilized for document processing pipelines that may parse user-supplied files. The flaw cannot be exploited without feeding an attacker-controlled PDF into the parser, and its impact is confined to the specific worker process handling the document.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
