CVE-2026-113732
Description
A flaw was found in virtualenv. The Fish shell activation script generator improperly sanitizes and quotes environment paths and prompt values. If an attacker can influence these values, specially crafted input can break out of the script's quoting syntax. Consequently, this flaw allows arbitrary command execution with the privileges of the victim when the activation script is sourced.
Statement
Red Hat has rated this flaw as having an Important impact because successful exploitation permits arbitrary local command execution within the victim's user context, although exploitation requires user interaction to source a compromised environment. On Red Hat Enterprise Linux and associated container environments, Fish is not installed or configured as the default login shell, significantly limiting exposure under standard deployment profiles. However, in developer workstations or automation pipelines where the Fish shell is utilized and environment paths or prompts can be influenced by untrusted input, the flaw poses a serious risk.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
