CVE-2026-113650

Description

A flaw was found in sanitize-html. A remote attacker can cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by submitting specially crafted HTML input containing disallowed iframe elements. Under default configurations, the library re-sanitizes iframe content through unbounded recursive calls, exhausting system resources and causing the application to crash.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as Moderate impact because, although it can be triggered remotely without authentication, exploitation is limited to causing a denial of service through process crashes or rendering failures without compromising data confidentiality or system integrity. In Red Hat environments, sanitize-html is consumed as an embedded dependency within various web consoles and management dashboards to filter untrusted user markup. An attacker supplying malformed iframe structures can exhaust the call stack to disrupt service availability, but the flaw does not facilitate arbitrary code execution or privilege escalation.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.

Technical Impact: DoS: Resource Consumption (CPU); DoS: Resource Consumption (Memory); DoS: Amplification

An infinite loop will cause unexpected consumption of resources, such as CPU cycles or memory. The software's operation may slow down, or cause a long time to respond.
