CVE-2026-113602

Description

A flaw was found in json-smart. A remote attacker can exploit this input validation bypass vulnerability by submitting crafted JSON data containing a literal substitute (0x1A) character followed by malformed content. This causes strict-mode validation checks to prematurely finish parsing and accept the invalid input. Consequently, this inconsistency can create parser differentials with downstream JSON parsers, potentially enabling attackers to bypass security filters or cause data integrity issues.

Statement

This vulnerability is classified as having a Moderate impact for Red Hat products because triggering the flaw requires an architecture where the library performs strict pre-parsing validation ahead of a different downstream parser. Within standard Red Hat enterprise runtimes and integrations, payloads are typically parsed directly by a single consistent parser rather than routed through multi-stage validation pipelines. As a result, the parsing discrepancy caused by unhandled control characters presents limited risk under default operational configurations.

Mitigation

Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
