CVE-2026-113311

Description

A flaw was found in the chromium-browser ServiceWorker component. A remote attacker could exploit this flaw to execute arbitrary code within the browser sandbox by enticing a user to visit a specially crafted HTML page. This issue stems from a use-after-free memory corruption condition, which occurs when the application attempts to reference memory that has already been deallocated.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as Important severity because an unauthenticated remote attacker could execute arbitrary code within the browser's sandboxed environment when a user is convinced to visit a malicious website. Although the sandbox confines execution away from direct host operating system access, the breach of renderer integrity threatens sensitive session data and can facilitate multi-stage compromise. Chromium is not part of core Red Hat Enterprise Linux and is packaged only for community distributions, including EPEL and Fedora.

Understanding the Weakness (CWE)

Confidentiality

Technical Impact: Read Memory

If the expired pointer is used in a read operation, an attacker might be able to control data read in by the application.

Availability

Technical Impact: DoS: Crash, Exit, or Restart

If the expired pointer references a memory location that is not accessible to the product, or points to a location that is "malformed" (such as NULL) or larger than expected by a read or write operation, then a crash may occur.

Integrity,Confidentiality,Availability

Technical Impact: Execute Unauthorized Code or Commands

If the expired pointer is used in a function call, or points to unexpected data in a write operation, then code execution may be possible.
