CVE-2026-113299
Description
A flaw was found in the WebProtect component of Chromium. A remote attacker could trigger memory corruption by convincing a user to open a specially crafted HTML page. Successful exploitation could allow the attacker to execute arbitrary code inside the browser's sandbox environment.
Statement
This vulnerability is evaluated as having an Important severity because an unauthenticated remote attacker can achieve arbitrary code execution by enticing a user to view a hostile web page, even though the blast radius remains confined within the application sandbox. Although the flaw does not facilitate a sandbox escape on its own, the potential for remote code execution without user privileges warrants an Important rating rather than Moderate. Chromium is not included in supported Red Hat Enterprise Linux offerings and is provided exclusively through community repositories such as Fedora and EPEL.
Understanding the Weakness (CWE)
Integrity
Technical Impact: Modify Memory; Execute Unauthorized Code or Commands
Write operations could cause memory corruption. In some cases, an adversary can modify control data such as return addresses in order to execute unexpected code.
Availability
Technical Impact: DoS: Crash, Exit, or Restart
Attempting to access out-of-range, invalid, or unauthorized memory could cause the product to crash.
Other
Technical Impact: Unexpected State
Subsequent write operations can produce undefined or unexpected results.
