CVE-2026-113287
Description
A flaw was found in the Prompts component of chromium-browser. This use-after-free issue occurs when the application references memory after it has been released. A remote attacker could exploit this flaw by enticing a user to visit a specially crafted HTML page, potentially allowing arbitrary code execution within the browser's sandbox environment.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as having an Important severity impact because it allows an unauthenticated remote attacker to execute arbitrary code within the confines of the browser sandbox if an end user is tricked into navigating to a malicious web page. The requirement for user interaction and the boundaries of the sandbox prevent direct host compromise, justifying an Important rating rather than Critical. Furthermore, the chromium package is not distributed or supported in Red Hat Enterprise Linux, confining potential impact to community environments such as Fedora and EPEL.
Understanding the Weakness (CWE)
Confidentiality
Technical Impact: Read Memory
If the expired pointer is used in a read operation, an attacker might be able to control data read in by the application.
Availability
Technical Impact: DoS: Crash, Exit, or Restart
If the expired pointer references a memory location that is not accessible to the product, or points to a location that is "malformed" (such as NULL) or larger than expected by a read or write operation, then a crash may occur.
Integrity,Confidentiality,Availability
Technical Impact: Execute Unauthorized Code or Commands
If the expired pointer is used in a function call, or points to unexpected data in a write operation, then code execution may be possible.
