CVE-2026-113272

Description

A flaw was found in the Extensions component of chromium-browser. This vulnerability allows a remote attacker to achieve arbitrary code execution within the browser sandbox. By convincing a user to visit a specially crafted HTML page, an attacker can trigger memory corruption to execute untrusted code.

Statement

Red Hat rates this vulnerability as Important because an unauthenticated remote attacker could leverage memory corruption to run untrusted instructions inside the sandboxed process environment upon loading a malicious webpage. Although exploitation requires user interaction and execution remains restricted by sandbox defenses, this severity reflects the substantial risk of renderer compromise and potential chaining with sandbox escape vulnerabilities. Within Red Hat distributions, Chromium is provided through community streams such as Fedora and EPEL rather than core enterprise platforms.

Understanding the Weakness (CWE)

Integrity

Technical Impact: Modify Memory; Execute Unauthorized Code or Commands

Write operations could cause memory corruption. In some cases, an adversary can modify control data such as return addresses in order to execute unexpected code.

Availability

Technical Impact: DoS: Crash, Exit, or Restart

Attempting to access out-of-range, invalid, or unauthorized memory could cause the product to crash.

Other

Technical Impact: Unexpected State

Subsequent write operations can produce undefined or unexpected results.
