CVE-2026-113263
Description
A flaw was found in chromium-browser. This flaw allows a remote attacker to achieve arbitrary code execution outside the browser sandbox by enticing a user to view a specially crafted HTML page. The vulnerability stems from a use-after-free memory error in the Core component, which occurs when previously released memory continues to be referenced.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Important severity because successful exploitation allows an attacker to break out of browser isolation mechanisms and execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the active desktop user. Although the blast radius includes full compromise of the local user session, exploitation requires user interaction to navigate to a malicious website rather than direct remote service compromise. Additionally, Chromium is not distributed in default Red Hat Enterprise Linux channels and is only available via community repositories such as EPEL and Fedora.
Understanding the Weakness (CWE)
Confidentiality
Technical Impact: Read Memory
If the expired pointer is used in a read operation, an attacker might be able to control data read in by the application.
Availability
Technical Impact: DoS: Crash, Exit, or Restart
If the expired pointer references a memory location that is not accessible to the product, or points to a location that is "malformed" (such as NULL) or larger than expected by a read or write operation, then a crash may occur.
Integrity,Confidentiality,Availability
Technical Impact: Execute Unauthorized Code or Commands
If the expired pointer is used in a function call, or points to unexpected data in a write operation, then code execution may be possible.
