CVE-2026-113253

Description

A flaw was found in chromium-browser. This flaw allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code inside the browser sandbox by enticing a user to visit a specially crafted HTML page. The vulnerability stems from a use-after-free issue—referencing memory after it has been released—within the Canvas component.

Statement

Red Hat Product Security has rated this vulnerability as Important because an attacker can achieve code execution within the renderer sandbox when an unsuspecting user loads malicious web content. Although this permits untrusted instruction execution, the overall impact is limited because the Chromium sandbox restricts access to host operating system resources unless paired with an additional privilege escalation flaw. Furthermore, Chromium is not shipped in core Red Hat Enterprise Linux repositories and is only available through community offerings like EPEL and Fedora.

Understanding the Weakness (CWE)

Confidentiality

Technical Impact: Read Memory

If the expired pointer is used in a read operation, an attacker might be able to control data read in by the application.

Availability

Technical Impact: DoS: Crash, Exit, or Restart

If the expired pointer references a memory location that is not accessible to the product, or points to a location that is "malformed" (such as NULL) or larger than expected by a read or write operation, then a crash may occur.

Integrity,Confidentiality,Availability

Technical Impact: Execute Unauthorized Code or Commands

If the expired pointer is used in a function call, or points to unexpected data in a write operation, then code execution may be possible.
