CVE-2026-113240

Description

A flaw was found in the Chromecast component of Google Chrome. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by enticing a user to visit a specially crafted HTML page, triggering a use-after-free condition where memory is accessed after being released. Successful exploitation could allow the attacker to execute arbitrary code within the browser's sandbox environment.

Statement

Red Hat Product Security rates the severity of this vulnerability as Important due to the potential for arbitrary code execution when processing untrusted web content, which poses a significant threat to client endpoints. However, the Chromium browser package is not included in supported Red Hat Enterprise Linux releases, significantly reducing enterprise exposure to community repository installations. Successful exploitation requires an unsuspecting user to load a malicious web page, and any resulting execution remains restricted to the confined browser sandbox.

Understanding the Weakness (CWE)

Confidentiality

Technical Impact: Read Memory

If the expired pointer is used in a read operation, an attacker might be able to control data read in by the application.

Availability

Technical Impact: DoS: Crash, Exit, or Restart

If the expired pointer references a memory location that is not accessible to the product, or points to a location that is "malformed" (such as NULL) or larger than expected by a read or write operation, then a crash may occur.

Integrity,Confidentiality,Availability

Technical Impact: Execute Unauthorized Code or Commands

If the expired pointer is used in a function call, or points to unexpected data in a write operation, then code execution may be possible.
